He is a tenured professor of Surgery and Medicine at McGill University and the University of Montreal. Throughout his career he has received numerous scholarships from provincial and federal funding agencies including the Medical Research Council of Canada, the National Health Development Program and the Fonds de la recherche en santé du Quebec. With over 200 peer-reviewed publications in high ranking journals and more than 15 million dollars in research funding, Dr. Sampalis is recognized as one of the top clinical epidemiologists in the world with extensive expertise in clinical trials, health services research, health economics and outcome assessment as well as biostatistics. He has assisted several biotech and pharmaceutical companies in developing innovative and efficient solutions for the product development, including the use of adaptive designs and synthetic control trials.
He has also been a leader in Real World Evidence with significant contributions in the methodology but also direct application of Real-World Studies in charging health care practices and policies. His current methodological initiatives are in line with the current developments and evolution of evidence-based medicine, that calls for the integration of RWE with traditional clinical trials.
He has served as a consultant for numerous pharmaceutical companies, hospitals and government organizations and agencies.
Dr. Sampalis is currently a Fellow of the American College of Epidemiology and of the American Heart Association.
